Dear Kuna families:

It is hard to believe that we are at the halfway mark of the school year!

It’s an exciting time as we are also preparing for the next school year and our secondary and soon-to-be secondary students will be making class choices. Families will be getting more information from schools in the next couple of months.

An important part of this process is conversations about what students are interested in.

To support our families and students, the third annual College and Career Fair will be held for grades 5-12. This year it's Feb. 26, see details in the flyer below.

Thank you all who organize this great event so families can learn as well as career opportunities in our community.

Mark your calendars for Feb. 26 and we look forward to seeing you there!

Look for annual parent survey next month
In a few days, we will send our annual survey to parents. This short survey lets us know how you think we are doing. We appreciate your taking this survey!

Your feedback due Monday on cell phones, other policies under review
Thank you to our school trustees who are spending extra time listening to our community about what our schools’ cell phone rules should be. A draft reflecting initial feedback is available for review in policy 518 Student Electronic Devices. The policy is one of many under review that can be found on our website. Your feedback is due by Monday, Feb. 3.

PowerSchool data breach update
Earlier this month, we notified our families and staff that Kuna School District was among thousands of PowerSchool clients worldwide whose data was stolen by hackers.

We have been working with PowerSchool to determine what Kuna data was taken.

While some national news reports share that some districts data included Social Security numbers, we do not collect that from students and do not store staff SSNs in PowerSchool.

We understand that PowerSchool plans to provide those impacted with complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services for two years.

We expect more information to come from PowerSchool in the coming days.

Here are the KWA awards for the second quarter of the school year:

Darci Adams goes above and beyond by visiting students at home when needed, ensuring they have the support they require both academically and personally. She excels in teaching small groups, offering individualized attention to help each student succeed. Additionally, she plays a crucial role in coordinating basic needs for families from diverse international backgrounds. Darci makes sure they feel welcomed and supported. Her tireless efforts make a significant difference in the lives of both students and their families.”

“Mrs. Mandi White has been a wonderful teacher to my son. He transitioned to public school this year after only attending a Montessori style school and she has made the transition so easy for him. He is always excited about school and says that she is the best teacher. She is so kind and communicative with her students' parents. I think she deserves recognition.”

---

Tania Briseno is an incredible teacher. She cares for students. As a kinder parent, it's hard to let our babies start going to school but Briseno has made the transition so easy. She loves our kids as if they're her own. She sends pictures and communication so we know what's going on in the classroom. Our daughter gets excited for school every day and we know Briseno is the reason. Briseno deserves every award in my book and we want to thank her for all she does for Reed and our students.”

“This school year, Genae Gordon has truly gone above and beyond for our newcomer families at Reed Elementary. From securing home furnishings and arranging after-school activities to advocating for job opportunities, she has been a constant source of support. Genae has even made home visits during evenings and weekends to ensure our families feel welcomed and cared for. Her tirele
