Jog-a-Thon on Thursday, September 26

Jog-a-Thon is one of our favorite fundraisers! Kids collect pledges for the number of laps they complete. All money earned goes towards student recess activities, like our Lunch Clubs.

Jog-a-Thon packets will be coming home today or Monday for students to start collecting pledges. More details about prizes are in the packets.

September Focus: Leadership

AVID definition: moving up through your own hard work

In September, we focus on Leadership skills at Ross

Ross is pretty special! We are an AVID Nationwide Demonstration School, one of only a few in the nation.

What does it mean to be an AVID school? As an AVID school, we believe that all students can be prepared for their next level of learning. AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination, which means we support students in moving up through their own hard work. We believe that every student can learn at high levels (grade level or higher) and we use all kinds of strategies to help students become their best learning selves and be prepared for their future--middle school and beyond!

Leadership Goal Setting

Students are continuing to work on their Leadership goals this week.

Students each chose one component of Leadership from the poster and work on it over the next 2-3 weeks.

Starting on Sept. 23, Mrs. Tripp will go back and interview students who have met their Leadership goal for a YouTube video. All students have the chance to meet their goals!

Leadership Opportunity: 5th Grade CAST

CAST (Connecting All Students Together) is our 5th grade student leadership team. CAST students start with a World's Famous Chocolate Fundraiser in October and November. Then CAST students plan activities and service projects for all students on campus. They help celebrate birthdays and do daily announcements. They honor teachers and fellow students. They are true leaders on campus and in the community.

5th graders will have the chance to apply for CAST starting on September 23 and applications will be due by October 3. 30 5th graders will be selected to be in CAST.

Leadership Opportunity: 4th Grade Lunch Clubs

Starting on September 23, 4th Graders can fill out an application to run a Lunch Club for their classmates.

Lunch Clubs are choice activities that students put together that any classmate can join freely during lunch recess. Some past Lunch Clubs have included Rubik's Cube Club, Art Club, Friendship Bracelet Club, Lego Club, and Magic Club. These are free activities, run by students and parent volunteers, that give students a chance to experience different things at recess.

Running a Lunch Club gives 4th graders valuable leadership experience and add to the fun and friendship on campus for all students. Watch for the application coming in September newsletters.

Friday, September 27 is Ross school pictures. ALL students will have their pictures taken. If you would like to purchase pictures please use the link below and search for Ross Elementary.

Thanks for the great turnout at our Ross/Indian Creek PTA meeting! We have some great plans for family and student events coming up. It'll be a great year together.

Social Media Alert

We're hearing lots of kids talk about Tik Tok and YouTube videos with some inappropriate jokes and language

Many of our 4th and 5th graders are telling us about Tik Tok or YouTube videos they're seeing and making jokes that they hear on Tik Tok, YouTube, etc. that are not school appropriate. Many say that they watch them at friend's houses.

Cell Phones and Smart Watches

Ross is a Learning Zone!

Ross is a learning zone. We want to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.

For that reason, we have any students with cell phones leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for medical uses). Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).

Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time for our Rossome kids!

Morning Arrival

8:30 am–Gates open for morning recess and breakfast (no supervision before this time)
8:45 am–First bell rings and students line up
8:50 am–Tardy bell rings and class starts

End-of-day Details (M, T, Th, F)

3:30 pm–Car line pick up students released from class
We start the car line pick up earlier than walk up pick up so we can as many cars through as possible before the buses start lining up
3:35 pm–Walkers, walk-up pick up students, and bus students released from class

End-of-day Details (Early Release Days)

1:25 pm–Car line pick up students released from class
1:30 pm–Walkers, walk-up pick up students, and bus students released from class

Tips for Smooth Pick Up

Safety is our first concern–with kids, buses, cars, and all the moving parts, please follow our staff and guidelines. We’re there to help.
See the map for the flow of traffic during pick up.
Car line pick ups are released earlier. The car line may look long, but it moves quickly. If you choose to walk up instead, you will need to wait until the walk-up pick ups are released and until the car line dies down to get out.

If Your Student is Going Home a Different Way Than Usual

For safety reasons, we can’t allow students without a parent note or phone call to:
Ride a different bus home than usual
Be picked up by someone different than usual
So please:
Send a note in with your student to deliver to the office and/or teacher in the morning.
Or call the office by 1:30 pm so we have time to notify the teacher and student before the day's end.

Attendance Matters

In order to learn best, students need to be here for instruction. Thanks so much for helping us get to 94% attendance this week.
