Summer Meals
Free Summer Meals for Kids Ages 1–18
Kuna children can receive healthy meals—even when school is out. Free meals will be available at the following locations on weekdays this summer:
📍 Reed Elementary School (1670 Linder Road)
🗓 June 9 – August 1 (No service July 3–4)
🍽 Breakfast: 9:00 – 9:30 a.m.
🍽 Lunch: 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

KSD Child Nutrition
As part of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP), Kuna School District Child Nutrition is committed to serving nutritious, high-quality meals that support the health and academic success of every student.
We take pride in preparing many of our meals from scratch using fresh, wholesome ingredients. Our scratch-cooked meals are designed to deliver great taste while meeting USDA nutrition standards.
At the secondary level, students enjoy a variety of daily menu options to suit their tastes and dietary needs—including rotating hot meals, freshly made salads, and customizable sandwiches. Our goal is to offer students both variety and balance, while encouraging them to develop lifelong healthy eating habits.
We believe that good food fuels great learning, and we’re proud to nourish our students every day.

Free & Reduced Meals
Common Questions Regarding Free & Reduced Meals
- Does my student need a new application every year?
- Yes. If your child was approved for free or reduced meals last school year, their eligibility status will continue for 30 school days into the new school year to give you time to fill out a new application for them. If no new application is received, your student will move to full price meals.
- Do I need a separate application for each student?
- No. One application per household is needed.
- Our household receives government assistance. Does my student automatically receive free meals?
- Maybe. Students receiving SNAP Benefits, TAFI benefits, and being classified as Foster or Migrant in Idaho State will receive one free breakfast and one free lunch daily. If your student receives Medicaid benefits based on household income, they are eligible for the program, and the state will assign them free or reduced status based on the income reported. No application is needed for any students who fall into the above categories. You will receive an email before the start of school (and during the school year if your student is newly approved) stating your student’s eligibility. If you do not receive an email, please reach out to hmmartinez@kunaschools.org or call 208-922-1101.
- My student is approved for free meals. Does this mean they can get a free milk if they bring lunch from home?
- No. Students approved for free or reduced meals are approved for one reimbursable breakfast and lunch each day. A la carte purchases are paid at full price. Please contact the office if you have questions about reimbursable meals or a la carte items.
- I have a denied application from the current school year, and my household size or income has changed. Can I fill out another application with my current information?
- Yes. You can fill out a new application at any time throughout the year.
- Will the information provided on the application be verified?
- Maybe. We may request information to be verified at any time.
- Will the information on my application be kept private?
- Yes. Applications are confidential, and information is only used by the Child Nutrition department to determine eligibility.
